Back on the road.
Hoorah! We’re off to Maine!
Garden goods are being turned into last minute pesto batches and zucchini breads, projects are packed, library books have been selected. In just twenty-four hours, we’ll be on our way to heavenly Mount Desert Island (after the wedding of one of my nearest and dearest en route) – site of our honeymoon and precious, beautiful, most favorite annual retreat.
There’s something so special about a holiday for two. This year, we’ve visited friends near and far, traveled and visited with family, but there’s just something so very dear about finding a little getaway, in a teeny little coastal cabin, just for two. The things you talk about before you sleep are different, the magical mornings on the porch spent listening to loons (loons!) can just linger, the day is yours, the conversations are deep, the meals – on the grill or out of a basket by the sea or in our little borrowed kitchen – especially simple and filling. We’ve found some special spaces the world over, but never so perfect as Maine.
We’re off this weekend and back next (with maybe a post or two before we go). We’ll take lots of pictures (and not just of food this time). Happy August week!
